Tourism South East's hugely successful Go China campaign plays a key part in the UK's China inbound and student tourism market. TSE, campaign partners and headline sponsor The University of Portsmouth, are delighted to be welcoming UK based Chinese journalists at this forthcoming event, held at the Cutty Sark in London on 26 March.
This dedicated press event is an opportunity for journalists to meet with attractions and destination managers from around the South East of England and gather news stories, information on different events being held within the region and up and coming plans for the Summer/Autumn travel season. 2018 is an exciting year for the South East of England, as it celebrates some major anniversaries, two Royal Weddings, new museum openings and a wealth of events for Chinese visitors to the region to enjoy. The evening promises to present some fantastic opportunities
Guests will arrive in style following a speed boat transfer from Westminster Pier courtesy of City Cruises, enabling guests to enjoy the sights of London from a different perspective and reach Royal Museums Greenwich iconic Cutty Sark in a whole new way.
The event is sponsored by The University of Portsmouth a progressive and vibrant university and a testament to the city that built it. Based on the UK's south coast with 5,000 international and EU students from 150 countries, its strength is its diversity. This year, for the third consecutive year, Times Higher Education placed them in the 'top 100 young universities in the world' and that's an accolade the university is proud of alongside our TEF Gold rating.
The Go China collaborative campaign sees TSE partnering with attractions and destinations including Blenheim Palace, The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, Visit Brighton and Portsmouth's GunWharf Quays working together with our knowledge and recourses to effectively target the market.
It is clearly having a positive impact in the market -the latest 'International Passenger Survey' results indicate that the South East region has very strong growth in the Chinese market with 72,000 Chinese visits overall for 2017, 15% up from 2016.
The Go China newly refreshed website, regular e-news updates and annual published brochure not only showcases and underpins partner profiles in the market, but also extends a warm welcome to the South East. In targeting the UK based Chinese communities; each campaign partner will also work closely with their local universities and keep students updated through social media.
