'Sports tourism can reap rewards'


NATIONAL and regional tourism boards should pay more attention to sports tourism, experts have claimed.
A think tank of senior buyers organised by World Travel Market agreed that tourism bodies need to be more pro-active in identifying the opportunities that can come from hosting sporting events.
The group claims that although events such as the FIFA World Cup, the Olympics and Paralympics Games and The Ashes are all established travel products, the market for hosting specialist and niche events is currently underestimated.
