SALARIYA/STRATFORD LITERARY FESTIVAL CHILDREN'S BOOK PRIZE 2019 OPENS FOR ENTRIES

The Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival and the Salariya Book Company have opened their 2019 Children's Picture Book Prize for submissions.

The competition, which launched in 2017, is open to unpublished writers and illustrators, with a prize value of £1000. The winner will receive career advice from a leading literary agent and publicity through the Stratford Literary Festival, and the winning entry may also be lucky enough to be published by Salariya imprint, Scribblers. The final date for entries is 31st January 2019 and the winner will be announced in late February.

The most recent winner, Camille Whitcher, a graduate of the Cambridge School of Arts Illustration MA, had her book Luna and The Moon Rabbit, a magical story based on a Far Eastern folk legend, published in April 2018 with a launch reception in London and an event at the Stratford Literary Festival. The book has just been stocked by bookshops in the United States.

The panel of judges includes David Salariya, Founder and MD of The Salariya Book Company;?Annie Ashworth, Director of The Stratford Literary Festival;?The award winning author/illustrator Nick Butterworth; children's author Smriti Prasadam-Halls and children's illustrator Steven Lenton; literary agent for children's books Jodie Hodges of United Agents and?Tamsin Roswell, bookseller at Kenilworth Bookshop, in Warwickshire.

'Children's books and the importance of bedtime stories are a very important part of our work,' said Annie Ashworth, Stratford Upon Avon Literary Festival Director. 'And we are delighted to be working with Salariya again and with such a prestigious panel of judges.'

'We've had some very strong entries in the past,' said David Salariya, 'and Camille's book is perfect for our list. I'm really looking forward to the entries this year's competition will bring.'
