THE Cottage in the Wood - a hidden restaurant in the heart of Whinlatter Forest in the Lake District - has launched a new menu, in celebration of the Taste Cumbria festival which takes place in the county this September.
Designed by head chef Ryan Blackburn, the Taste Cumbria Menu features Solway Firth shrimps, duck eggs from Scales Farm in Embleton, Sourdough bread from award-winning Staveley bakery More?, Herdwick breast from Yew Tree Farm in Coniston, Whitehaven landed Turbot, red deer from Grizedale Forest, Blue Whinnow cheese from Thornby Moor Dairy near Carlisle and Grasmere Gingerbread.
To complement these, the menu also includes Westmorland Pepper Bread made using an old Cumbrian recipe and fresh herbs foraged from the forest by Ryan and his kitchen team.
