There are plenty of celebrations taking place at the 'BMC & Leyland Show' which is organised by the British Motor Museum on Sunday 7 July. In its seventh year, visitors are invited to celebrate a range of British Marques and pay tribute to the vehicles that were produced by the British Motor Corporation, British Leyland and The Rover Group.
This year the show will celebrate a number of key milestones including 60 years of the Morris Oxford Farina range, 90 years since the first BSA front wheel drive car and 50 years of the Austin Maxi, with the last production Austin maxi on display at the show. The Rover 200 and 400 Owners Club will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the SK3 launch and 30th anniversary of the R8 launch. The show also happens to take place on the same day as the Triumph National Weekend which celebrates the Triumph marque of cars and the Fire Service Preservation Group 999 Spectacular which is dedicated to Blue Light Emergency Service vehicles. Admission tickets give entry to all three events.
With hundreds of vehicles on display, including cars, commercial and military, the show showcases the range of vehicles produced under the BMC marque. From the Minis and Morris Minors, to the larger Rover 800's, Montego's and Maestro's and everything in between including vans and lorries. In addition there will be the traditional Cowley convoy from BMW Mini Cowley and a Longbridge Convoy from MG Longbridge, both arriving at the British Motor Museum in the morning. To join the convoy please contact Tanya Field on 07929 868284. Vehicle entrants can also take part in a 'Show and Shine' which is open to all vehicles attending the show. Simply register your vehicle on the day.
Visitors can also join the Archive Team in the Motoring Cinema for a rare opportunity to view historic documents in British Leyland's history. Starting at 11am and 2pm, these insightful talks will also detail how historic material is preserved in the Archive Collection. Talks last 45 minutes each and must be booked in advance via the Museum website.
