Holidaymakers urged to choose South Tyneside

UK holidaymakers have been urged to ditch their passports this summer in favour of a staycation in South Tyneside.
Local town South Shields is one of nine destinations partnering VisitEngland in a campaign to promote the traditional seaside holiday, which will highlight the borough's many attractions, from Blue Flag beaches to its free, three month long summer festival and award-winning fish and chips.
Deputy council leader coun Alan Kerr said: "There's nothing to beat a traditional seaside holiday and South Tyneside is one of the top resorts in the UK for visitors of all ages.
"It's wonderful to see them discover what we, who live here, have known for ages; that when it comes to brilliant beaches, free family entertainment and great food - whether it's ice cream, fish and chips or a curry from Ocean Road - we simply can't be beaten."
