Gorgeous things for gorgeous people

The Gorgeous Christmas Craft and Food Fair, Enginuity, Coalbrookdale,
Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November

Now in its 14th year, the long-running Gorgeous contemporary designer craft and food fair returns to the Engine Shop, adjacent to Enginuity, Coalbrookdale over the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November. Once again, entry to the selling exhibition will be free of charge, which means you can save your money for all the lovely things you'll find there.

Organised by the Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft, Gorgeous is a celebration of creative skills, promoting the work of designers and craftsmen from the West Midlands, many of whom enjoy status as internationally recognised artists. It also builds on The Gorge's rich heritage of creativity; the place where early industrialists mined for raw materials to make iron, tiles and porcelain goods.

Come along and browse and buy from over 40 stalls where you will find a huge variety of disciplines including exquisite and unusual jewellery, glassware, ceramics, textiles, fine furniture, prints and metal work from the region's finest designer makers. With a wide choice of handmade designs and individual artworks on offer, you'll find a wealth of Christmas gift ideas, from magnificent one-off designer pieces to affordable goods. Gorgeous is the ideal opportunity to get ahead of your Christmas list or find the perfect gift to give yourself.

But there's more to Gorgeous than just shopping… throughout the weekend many of the exhibitors will be demonstrating their craft, giving you an insight into their work and an opportunity to ask questions. And, if all of that works up an appetite, you'll find tasty treats from some of the region's best food providers available to eat or take home.

This year top exhibitors include:

Furniture maker Robert Shelton, who combines traditional design with a contemporary twist to create furniture of real character. Using locally sourced wood he crafts individual pieces of great character and specialises in Windsor chairs.

Vicky Rollinson has been potting and making tableware for over 20 years using both porcelain and terracotta clay. Her work reflects a fascination with the natural world and she experiments using textured and heavily grogged clays to produce pieces with a sculptural appearance.

Nicola Rudd specialises in weaving on multi-harness hand looms, working with up to 24 shafts to create a wide variety of patterns. She particularly enjoys weaving in warm colours and rich twills.

Gorgeous is open 10am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday; entry into the Engine Shop for the exhibition is free but normal admission charges apply for the Enginuity museum.
