With less than 4 weeks to go until the 40th Warwick Folk Festival takes place; the countdown has begun! The hugely popular Billy Bragg will be head-lining the festival which returns for its milestone 40th special year from 25 - 28 July. This year the festival has a new site layout with improved access to all areas of the grounds and the introduction of a new festival village including craft, food and drink stalls plus a mini beer festival tent. Visitors can also enjoy the return of the festival marquee and swimming pool!
The family friendly festival, which takes place at Warwick School and the surrounding town, will also feature other leading names including Skerryvore, Karan Casey, Calan, Will Pound & Eddy Jay, Breabach, O'Hooley & Tidow and Nancy Kerr.
This year there will be several wellbeing areas on-site and at the Unitarian Chapel, where experts will provide free help and advice in areas such as dementia care, Tai Chi and community building.
The Festival is also delighted to announce that it has been awarded funding from Art's Council England to help them continue to develop and promote the festival. The funding will enable the organisers to build on their 40-year heritage and develop a festival fit for the next 40 years.
In addition to all the headline acts, visitors can enjoy a programme of ceilidhs, concerts, sing-arounds, dance, intimate acoustic performances or full on gigs. In the town centre there will be a vast array of colourful dance displays, pub music sessions and open-air concerts.
Dick Dixon, Festival Director said, "With less than 4 weeks to go, we are gearing up for a spectacular festival to celebrate our special 40th year. If you haven't booked tickets yet, then I strongly urge you to do so especially for Billy Bragg who will perform on the Thursday in the main marquee. Come along and soak up the atmosphere, sit in the beer tent, join in with the sessions, shop in the craft stalls, learn a new skill, taste street food, or simply relax with friends in the wine and cocktail bar. Whatever you enjoy doing, you can be guaranteed that the Festival has something for everyone".
To help celebrate their 40th year the organisers are asking people to send in photographs capturing memories of earlier festival moments such as engagements, births, chance meetings that have sparked musical and personal projects and generations growing up with the festival.
