Rail link's success in survey
THE non-stop rail service between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport has topped a poll in a national passenger satisfaction survey and has achieved the highest ever score. 
Passenger Focus, the independent national rail consumer watchdog, surveyed 25,000 rail passengers about their rail journeys over the past six months and Heathrow Express was given a 96 per cent satisfaction rating.  
Brian Raven, managing director, said: “As a rail-air link to one of the world’s busiest airports, we are one of the first experiences for any incoming visitor and we are proud to be providing the best of British customer service.

UK bid to host ABTA conference
VISIT Britain has made an informal approach about England hosting the 2008 Association of British Travel Agents annual travel convention.  
Chief executive Tom Wright has written to ABTA saying VistBritain would be “delighted” if England were to be chosen to host next year’s event. 
He said the tourism body would like to offer its support to make this happen in 2008. Manchester has been put forward by leading travel agents as a preferred venue. 
Tom said: “We believe that the case for a domestic event is stronger than ever.

Blackpool battles on despite casino defeat
BLACKPOOL has vowed to keep fighting after the town lost out to Manchester in the race to host the country’s first super casino. 
The town was considered to be amongst the favourites to be awarded a casino, which would hopefully assist in regenerating the area and reversing its declining tourism industry. 
Chief executive of Blackpool Council, Steve Weaver said: “We are surprised and hugely disappointed by the Casino Advisory Panel’s recommendation but we are not giving up.  
“This is an enormous missed opportunity for Blackpool to become a world-class resort destination.  
“We are also the people’s choice nationally having received well over twice as much support as any other location.

Boost for historical tourism
ENGLISH Heritage has unveiled a package of exhibitions and investments in a bid to attract more tourists into historical sites this year, Destination UK can reveal. 
This month, a new visitor centre was opened as part of a £2.3 million project to entice more people to The Battle of 1066 attraction at Battle Abbey and Battlefield, East Sussex.  
Also, Castle Acre Priory in Norfolk has already unveiled an exhibition to explain how the Warenne family created the settlement in the 11th century.  

Movie fame brings tourist boom
A PICTURESQUE village is expecting a £500,000 tourism boom thanks to the release of new Brit flick comedy Hot Fuzz. 
The movie - which starts comedians Nick Frost and Simon Pegg of ‘Shaun of the Dead’ fame - is expected to thrust the quiet area of Wells into the spotlight which Mendip District Council hope will prompt interest.

May opening for Norfolk theme park
A NEW adventure park is set to open in the May bank holiday weekend, bringing an expected 80,000 visitors per year to the Norfolk Broads.  
Named Bewilderwood, the ‘curious treehouse adventure’ attraction in Hoveton, near Norwich, is the realisation of an ambitious project by the entrepreneur Tom Blofeld.  
Primarily aimed at four to 14 year olds, the adventure park features rides such as zip wires and treehouses that are accessible for all ages.
